What To Watch This Year? The 2022 Movie Challenge
Sometimes when you’re trawling through Twitter you find some interesting accounts. One of the most recent ones I’ve started following is called @Thereisnocat_. It posts a picture and, despite the account’s name, you have to find the cat. The cat is always well hidden so it appears as there is no cat in the image. And that’s it.
Towards the end of last year I came across an account called CineChallenges, and its premise was simple, each week they would suggest a topic and challenge you to watch a film that fits that topic.
The categories could be something open such as “watch a film you’ve never seen before“, or more specific such as “watch a disaster movie from the ’70s“. Whatever the category, the choice of film is up to you.
As I only found this Twitter account part way through the year I decided to wait until the turn of the year to start the challenges from week 1. And that is why I watched Ghostbusters Afterlife this week as it fit with the first category of the year which was “watch a movie about fresh starts/new beginnings“. In the film, Egon’s estranged daughter starts a new life in the country when left Egon’s house when he dies.
The film was enjoyable enough, a few laughs and plenty of knowing nods to the original film from 1984. The storyline also follows on from that first one with the protagonist being Gozer the Gozerian and the terror dogs. Thankfully it has nothing to do with the 2016 remake!
I’m going to try and keep on top of this throughout the year so I’m looking forward to seeing what challenges come up each week.
