Finally Bought My Nokia N900
After much deliberating and my Nokia N82 starting to give up on me I finally got round to buying myself a Nokia N900 a few days ago.
It is a really powerful little machine, it’s more than a phone, acting more like a computer than a mobile with added features. The touch-screen works really well once you get used to which way to flick the screen and there’s the slide-out keyboard as well which gives you another option for inputting text and for keyboard shortcuts.
The phone has four desktops, so you are able to put your different apps, contacts widgets and shortcuts on separate screens and flick easily between them. It might take me a while to sort them into the groups I want but at least it will be fun trying them out.
It has the ability to run multiple apps (which the iPhone can’t yet do) and although there are more iPhone apps to download at the moment than there are from the Ovi Store and from the Maemo site, there are some great tools and utilities available.
My favourite one at the moment is Series Finale. It’s a TV-based application that allows you to keep track of TV shows so that you can see how many episodes you have watched, what ones are coming up. It uses the TVDB.com API to build a list of all major TV shows which you then add to your list on the phone. Everytime you watch a show just mark it as viewed and so your never lost as to where you are in a series.

Despite one bug that exists which means you can’t delete any shows (be careful when adding FlashForward that you don’t search for “Flash Forward”!) (this bug has been fixed in the latest release) it is a great little application, one that actually has a function and can be quite useful. Here’s the reasons for designing the application from the author’s own mouth:
