F Is For Flesh & Buns

After missing out on last month’s Alphabet Dinner that didn’t actually happen anyway (two of the group just ended up at Belgos again!), four of us met up last night for dinner at our ‘F’ restaurant, Flesh & Buns.
Flesh & Buns is an Izakaya style restaurant which is a type of informal Japanese drinking establishment that serves food to accompany the drinks (according to Wikipedia!). The premise is that you order a selection of different meats and some steamed buns and you then build your bun with the meats and accompanying pickles and sauces and salad exactly how you want it. Or as The Wife put it “you make your own sandwich!”
The easiest way to order is just to get a selection of small and main dishes and so that’s what we did. We had chicken wings, piglet belly, crispy duck, sirloin steak, roast chicken, soft shelled crab, chicken yakatori and needless to say, we didn’t go hungry. Everything was really tasty, lots of different flavours, but I wish we’d ordered more buns as two don’t go very far.
We don’t normally go for desserts but we made an exception this time around as they had S’Mores on the menu. These are passionfruit marshmallows which you toast/melt and then wrap in biscuits and chocolate and were delicious. But as The Wife pointed out, “you had to make your own dessert as well!”

Make your own dessert
It was a really good meal and the fact that it was a little different to a standard restaurant made it a good experience as well.
Now, where to go next month? Well actually we’re going back to Dishoom seeing as how that didn’t work out back in April!
