Down But Not Disheartened

Down but not disheartened

Yesterday we played the league leaders Spartac Reserves in our second double-header of the season, and although we were up against a team that are pretty much running away with it at the top of the table, we weren’t embarrassed by them!

In fact, both games were relatively close. We only lost the first game 2-0 which isn’t bad when you consider they’re beating teams by six or seven goals each week. But the second game was even closer and had it not been for one momentary lapse in concentration we could have come away with at least a point.

And had one of our strikers not been as greedy as a fat kid in a cake shop, we would have caused an upset and taken a point, but when he chose to shoot instead of playing in his strike partner our chance of taking a point disappeared as quickly as his ball did over the crossbar!

Although we only took three points from the possible nine over the Easter weekend (we beat Pentagon on Easter Friday) we still managed to move up to sixth place in the league table. And if we win our next double header against Scorpions Reserves next weekend we’ll move up to fifth.

The only thing that will be stopping us will be our ability to underestimate our opponents. They’re currently second from bottom and have won only 4 games, but that’s only 3 games less than we have won. And so it won’t be as straight forward as the league table suggests!
