Google. Making Statues Anonymous

When Google launched Street View in the UK last year people complained that there wasn’t enough done to keep people’s faces from being recognised. There were reports in the papers that people could clearly be seen walking out of brothels, parliament and other such dubious places which caused embarrassment to the people concerned.

So Google had to play nice and make changes to whatever it was that blurred out faces to keep this handful of people happy. But it appears that it now goes a little bit too far.

While having a look round Upton Park I decided to take a look at the Bobby Moore statue on the Barking Road and when I tried to get a close-up view of it, this is what I saw (click to make it bigger)…

For some, unknown reason, they have blurred out the faces of Geoff Hurst and Martin Peters, yet still keep those of Bobby Moore and Ray Wilson for all the world to see.

Did Hurst and Peters request that their faces be obscured or have the Germans still not got over that day and have hacked in to Google to blur out the faces of the goalscorers?
