Don’t Forget The Kitchen Sink!

I’ve alluded in the past as to the amount of stuff that we’re taking away with us on holiday next month, but what is actually needed when going to the Maldives? Well you’d think that for a couple of weeks of doing as little as possible you wouldn’t need to take that much, but it looks as though the gf and I might be going overboard as we prepare for our vacation to Chaaya Lagoon Hakuraa Huraa next month!

First off, as it’s the Maldives, there’s an array of snorkeling equipment to take. The masks, snorkels and fins we bought especially for this trip are must-haves. But then we also need a mesh bag to carry it all around in once we’re there. And just in case the sand’s not as smooth as we hope a pair of reef shoes are also required.

What else is needed to laze around the water in the sunshine? That’s right, a lilo! Something else that we’ve had to buy, although they only cost us £6 each. Yes, each. We’re taking two. Plus some string to tie them to our water bungalow! So that’s all the water-based extras that we’re taking.

To help pass the time while lazing on the deck or the beach we need books. The gf will be taking about 5 or 6 books as usual but as I’m a lover of gadgets I will be taking my Sony eReader with me. A fantastic device that’s currently loaded up with about 60 books, of which I’ll probably get through about 3!

Sometimes I need a break from reading and so the iPod will be accompanying me. Also good for playing in the room, so I may need some speakers as well.

No doubt I’ve seen most of the films they’re gonna play on the plane so I’ll take my PSPGo and noise-canceling headphones as well. This way I can watch some TV or a film or play a game. If I take a video cable that I can plug it into the TV in our hotel room we can have some entertainment in the evening when we’re just lounging before dinner.

Gadgets need power so I need chargers for the eReader and PSPGo and iPod. The easiest thing to take would be a USB cable. But that requires a computer, so I may as well take my laptop along with me. And apparently the room is a bit light when it comes to plug points so a 4-way plug is needed as well!

So this is all the extra stuff we need which isn’t clothing, toiletries, footwear. I have a feeling we’ll be going over our weight allowance!
