Booze in Munchen, Glad I’m Back

Some years ago, I got to travel quite a bit with my job and had multiple trips to Madrid to train staff and also got the opportunity to work in Japan for 6 weeks in 2006. Since then, however, business trips have been very, very thin on the ground.
However that all changed this week when I headed out to Munich on a business trip for a couple of days with 11 other people from our agencies.
My 2 bosses and I flew out early Tuesday morning and arrived in Munich in time for a lunch meeting with the MD of the company we were visiting. After lunch we met with the CTO as he explained all about the tech that we were there to see and we outlined what we thought would be the best way to approach the presentation with the people that would be joining us the next day, the people that were there to kick the tyres of the tool.
After an early finish, we went to our hotel to check in, freshen up, speak with our other halves before heading out for the evening for some food and drink. We started at the Hofbrauhaus in the center of town where we sank a couple of steins and ate dinner before having a wander around the town with a couple more stop offs for beer.
Despite our best attempts we were unable to coordinate where we were with the rest of the people who had arrived that evening and so we headed back to the hotel to catch up there.
The next day was spent like students in a classroom as we were given demo after demo of the technology on the top floor of the offices which had an amazing view of the Alps in the distance.
That evening we had a tour of the city before heading to a restaurant for dinner which was followed by another trip to the Hofbrauhaus. Many drinks and drinking games later, two of us got separated from the group and it took us an hour to find them in Kultfabrik, which is basically an alley full of bars and clubs.
Many, many drinks later we stumbled back to the hotel, eventually getting back just after 3am. I struggle to remember the last time I was out drinking so late! It was a long time ago!
The next morning most people were bleary eyed as we sat through the last training session, the air in the room having an unmistakable stench of alcohol in it. Luckily we were only in there for a couple of hours before our taxis arrived to take us to the airport for the journey home.
Hopefully this won’t be the last overseas business trips as it had been fun exploring a new city. Oh, and the tech we’d seen was pretty good to!
*and yes, this post title is an attempt at a pun on “Borussia Monchengladbach”
