Alan Davies – Life Is Pain
Last night, The Wife and I headed down to Chatham to see Alan Davies at our local theatre. Well, why else would we go into Chatham? Have you seen it? It’s a shit hole! No honestly, it is. I may have gone to school there but since then it’d gone downhill quicker than a Felix Baumgartner space jump!
This is Alan’s first tour in over a decade, and having seen him in London on his Urban Trauma tour back in 1998 and being the person behind the funniest stand up video I own, “Alan Davies Live at the Lyric”, it made sense for us to go and see him this time around.
It was a very funny show, the majority of the first half of which he indulged in some banter with the crowd, and commenting on Kent life, he himself having studied at the University of Kent back in the 80s. There was the usual slagging off of Chatham (see above!) and the references to Sheppey, inbreds and the like which has become normal for comedians these days, but at least Alan could give his own unique view on it having experienced it first hand, albeit some years ago!
After the interval (where The Wife experienced the slowest ever bar staff!) he hit the ground ambling* for the second half with his regular routine and he had us in stitches for the next hour. The routine about having a vasectomy and what men ejaculate afterwards, well, I’ll leave it to your imagination!
If you get a chance to catch it on tour then do so. Hopefully it will turn up on DVD at some point so I can add it to my collection. I doubt it’ll be out on VHS though!
*Alan’s not the sort of person to run anywhere!
