We’ve Got Walls!
After a couple of weeks with no update, we took a trip back up to the new house today, mainly to talk through the fireplace with a stove specialist (see below), but it gave us a chance to see what has been done to the house since our last visit.
The main change is that we now have walls! Instead of just bare brick walls downstairs and wooden framing upstairs there is now proper dry lining walls in place. This has the effect of making the place seem a lot brighter than it was as they are white as opposed to the dark bricks that were there.
You can see the difference in these before & after shots of the main bedroom and kitchen/dining room:

The stairs are also in place so we can now go up and down without having to climb a ladder!

In other move related news, we want a fireplace built into the lounge and to do this requires a lot of work on our part. We headed down to the Woodstove Trading Company a couple of weeks back to look at what type of stoves we liked and to get an idea on actual cost. They then visited the new property and sent us a quote for the supplying and installing of a woodstove. But we also need to get a fireplace actually built in.
So today we had a visit at our house from Nick from WTC so he could see what size our fireplace is at the moment, and get an idea of what it is we want in the new place (basically a carbon copy). Then we went down there to get an idea of the sizing of it in the room itself. It’s a lot easier to visualise something if you’ve got a plan in place!
The good news is that we don’t have to rush to get it in. We thought that it may be easier to have the thing built before the room was finished (and before we actually move in) but it is just as easy to do afterwards. This means we don’t have to rush in trying to decide what bricks, slate and beam we want to use!
