Thank God That’s Over!

Oh. My. God. I really hope I don’t have to go through all that again!

I must have spent a sum total of about four hours on the toilet on Monday night and Tuesday morning as the Moviprep went to work through my system. All the time I had TLC’s song Waterfalls running through my head.

Not being able to eat for 28 hours wasn’t pleasant either as I was starving by the time I was taken into the operating theatre.

We arrived at the hospital at about a quarter past three yesterday in time for my admission and I was shown into my private room where a nurse checked my heart rate and asked me if I was who the paperwork said I was. I was then asked to change into some rather fetching pants and gown and then we had to wait for about an hour and a half as the ‘list’ didn’t start until five o’clock. I’m not quite sure why they want you there so early as it just made me get a little bit more nervous with each passing minute.

Another nurse came by and fitted me with the cannular that would give me the sedation throughout the procedure and then it was time. I made my way down to theatre and hopped up onto the bed and assumed the position! I was attached to another couple of monitors and then the doctor hooked up the sedation and began…

From that point on I was aware of what was going on and while it wasn’t painful, it was uncomfortable as the camera snaked it’s way around the colon. The whole procedure lasted for about half an hour and there was a little banding for the doctor to do at the end which was the most painful part.

I was wheeled back up to my room where The Wife had been patiently waiting and after finally being allowed to eat something (29 hours!) the effects of the sedation caught up with me and I got a bit of sleep.

A short while later another nurse came in and he did his final checks and I was discharged. The Wife drove us home (aiming for the potholes on purpose I think!) and after another bit of food we hit the sack. Still in pain in that area I didn’t get much sleep and was even up at about 5am having a bit of food.

It’s still painful now as I wait for the Ibuprofen to kick in and it’s uncomfortable sitting down so I will be spending most of today either laying in bed or on the sofa

On the plus side, the Moviprep helped me lose half a stone! So, you know, silver linings!
