Only Gone And Got Injured Again
Another game of football and another injury! And this time a trip to the hospital was needed as well.
After a seemingly innocuous challenge about twenty minutes into the game, I ended up jumping a tackle and sliding onto my knees as I hit the floor. I brushed away the mud and carried on playing. A minute or two later I look down and see some blood running down my knee and leg. Quite a lot of blood!
I get to the sidelines and start to clean up the blood and I notice a three inch long, deep slice down my knee, and it just won’t stop bleeding. I clean it up as best I can and smear vaseline over it to try and stem the tide of blood and manage to get some padding onto it and get it strapped up.
Our physio/first aider takes a look at it at half time and recommends getting myself over to the hospital as it looks like it needs stitches. Only trouble is, I can’t drive with it strapped up.
Cue The Wife getting a taxi to the pitch and driving me to the hospital, we end up waiting for around an hour before being seen by a nurse who promptly tells me off for using vaseline to stop the blood as it hinders her being able to clean it up. After some scrubbing she has it clean and is able to assess it more easily and then tells me to wait again until another nurse can do something with it.

Luckily I don’t need stitches, but because I have used the vaseline, it means the butterfly stitches they want to use won’t stick to my knee. So they end up just patching it up with a large gauze and strap it all up so tightly that I can’t bend the knee with instructions to try not to walk and to keep it straight as long as possible. Going to be spending a lot of time sat on my sofa then!
