The Toon Are In Town

Attended my first football match of the season last night, but unfortunately it wasn’t to watch West Ham. No, I got to go and watch Gillingham, my local team, play Newcastle in the League Cup.
A friend of mine is a Toon fan and so she got to experience the delights(?) of Gillingham before the match which included queuing for mediocre sausage and chips, before we headed to Priestfields stadium to have a quick drink before taking our seats.
Fortunately for her, we had seats near the dugouts and so she was able to spend some of the quieter times during the match on Pardew Watch, filling her iPhone with pictures of the Newcastle manager.
The game itself was pretty uneventful. Newcastle won it 1-0 thanks to an own goal by an ex-Sunderland player and they came close to a second when they hit the bar, but that was about it. Gillingham put some pressure on in the final few minutes to try and scrabble a draw but they didn’t come close.
