Not Exactly A Great Start!

So we’ve had the washing machine flood the kitchen and the phone line going down for a few days, and now we can add a hospital visit to the “things that have gone wrong already this year”

While playing football on Sunday, I went in for a tackle and came out of it in a bit of pain. As is my usual response, I tried to play on but had to go off after about 10 minutes of the second half as I couldn’t even kick the ball (no smart comments about “no change there then” please). The pain, which was in my big toe, remained for the next day. But then on Tuesday that toe started turning black and blue!

Initially I thought it was just bruised, but after hobbling along to the post office on Wednesday morning I decided a visit to the hospital would be a good idea. 2 hours later and a visit to triage, a consult with a doctor and an x-ray, I was having the toe strapped up. The diagnosis? A cracked bone in the toe!

I was told to rest it as much as I could (which is hard to do as I kind of need to use it to get around!) which is a good excuse not to travel to work! But the worst part is that there will be no more football for a few weeks. So now I’m hobbling around the house looking like someone who works at the Ministry of Silly Walks while trying to keep it elevated when sat down.

They say things comes in threes (whoever ‘they’ are) and each of these happened on Sunday, so hopefully this will be it for a little while at least. Fingers crossed…

UPDATE:
A visit to the ‘Fracture Clinic’ for a consult today showed me the extent of the break, which is now going to keep me from playing football for 4-6 weeks. Luckily it won’t stop me scuba diving and snorkelling on my holiday next month!
