New Moan On Monday

One of the companies within our ‘group’ have been responsible for the launch of the VEVO music video service in the UK. As a result there was a gathering today at the offices just up the road where a band would be present to help launch the service by showing their new video.

As part of this, last week the company ran a quiz to give 5 people the chance to meet the band afterwards and hang with them for a while in the bar. To be in with a chance you had to answer 6 questions. Five of which could be answered by a lot of searching on the internet and one question where you had to guess what the first single bought by one of the CEOs was.

Nothing was mentioned on who the band was (I guess to not put people off entering) only that they’d been around for about thirty years, and had appeared on film soundtracks. Just from that little information I guessed that it would be Duran Duran who would be appearing at the Mediacom offices. I’m not a HUGE fan of them, but I did like them as a kid, I have a few of their albums and saw them in concert a couple of years ago, so thought it would be pretty cool to meet them. But it wasn’t confirmed that it would be them. It was just a hunch.

So after much persusing of the internet I managed to answer the five (easy-ish) questions and for the first single bought, just thought it might have something to do with Duran x2 so guessed at it being The Reflex. I pressed Send and thought nothing of it.

Until later that afternoon. It was then I realised I wouldn’t be in the office as I had to go to the doctors for a vaccination check up to ensure I was fully innoculated for our honeymoon next month. “Ah well” I thought “I probably won’t win as I haven’t got the 6th question right”. And I hadn’t!

At the launch the band was revealed to be (ta-dah!) Duran Duran and they then got round to revealing the lucky winners. However, as only a couple of people had got all six correct they decided to also include those who had got five right and had been close with their final guess. And would you believe it, my name was called out as one of the winners!

I get the chance to meet Duran Duran and I’m 40 miles away at home, on a conference call!
