More Estate Agent Woes

So, not being content with doing no work for us, I had a phone call yesterday from the estate agents wanting us to drop the price of our house.

Apparently the market is quiet and this is needed to try to get people to notice it. This is despite the fact that the photos and description still don’t do the property justice, and us having told them this a number of times.

I told them that I would need to speak to The Wife before a decision could be made.

So today when they called back I started telling them that we weren’t comfortable with changing the price yet again (we’ve already gone from a high bracket to a static “from” price to a lower bracket and now they want us to change it again to an “offers in excess of” price). I told them how we weren’t happy with the fact that we were told that images would be refreshed, and how they hadn’t yet appeared to do much to sell the house, probably insulting them in the process by telling them that I could have done as much as them by putting it on my own website and just leaving it.

He went away to discuss with his colleagues and then I got a phone call back from one of them about 15 minutes later. I was asked what photos I would like as the main ones and what changes to the description I wanted. Surely this is their job? They’re the ones that are marketing people, they should know how to sell a fricking property.

I restrained myself from asking this and to save myself an awkward phone call I asked for his email address and sent an email to him that told him basically what we thought. I even wrote out a description that was a thousand times better than the one that they currently had!

It didn’t take long, all I had to do was a bit of research on properties in our area, and come up with a couple of phrases that could be lifted from other descriptions and amended slightly to fit into our own property. Took me about 10 minutes.

Now I don’t think I should be doing their job for them, but if I am does that mean I get a cut of the commission they’ll get from our fee?
