Farewell To 2012. A Review

Twenty Twelve

As we trudge miserably into 2013 it’s clear that the Mayans cocked up their prediction of the end of the world on the 21st December. Bloody Mayans, can’t even get their vague guessing right!

So what actually happened in 2012 then? Well here’ my round up of stuff what happened to me last year.

January
Work-wise the year got off to an OK start. The problems associated with a particular client drew to a close as we palmed them off to another company and my life got about 30000% easier. I try not to talk about work here just in case my boss, employees or potential employees (should I decide to move jobs at some point) take a gander at what’s on here but I was so fucking glad that we finally got round to ditching them!

February
Due to the loss of “the client” I have to re-train in social media, learning all about Facebook advertising and other aspects of social stuff. It’s really interesting and although it takes a short while to get out of the mindset I’ve been in for the past 4 years I take to it like a duck to water!

March & April
The highlight here is our trip to Egypt to do some scuba diving, snorkelling and general lazing about. It was nice to get in the water again and we swam with turtles!!

May
I finally got to fulfil and ambition of seeing West Ham play at Wembley! OK, so it’s not the FA Cup final but it is a final of sorts, the Championship Play-off Final. The only way I can get there is to buy a ticket in the Blackpool end! But at least I’m there!

I also step down as manager of Medway 2000 FC after 4 years at the helm. It takes quite a bit of work on match days and I’m getting too old to not warm up before the game and so I pass on the duties to one of the players although I remain as club secretary.

June & July
We had a relatively quiet summer but the highlight was becoming zoo keepers for the day at Whipsnade Zoo. That was great fun, mucking out some of the enclosures and feeding some of the animals. I’d really like to do that again one day.

On the downside, it was around this time that the new house shenanigans began. Say. No. More.

August
In August we go to the Olympics (something I probably won’t be able to say again. Ever!). We had tickets for the basketball and watch the USA play Lithuania and were kept entertained by some great interval shows.

I got to tick another thing off my “to-do list” in August when we headed up to Edinburgh for a friend’s wedding and we went to see some shows at the Edinburgh Festival including Jimmy Carr, Rhod Gilbert and Jimoein.

September, October and November
Nothing much happened in September and October, well not that I can remember anyway! It was my birthday in November so it’s time to catch up with friends at my birthday drinks in The Maple Leaf pub in Covent Garden. It’s because it’s a Canadian pub, yeah?

At work, I am given a few new responsibilities thus expanding my role even further and giving me more work to do. Well it’s better to be busy than to be bored right? I also take an online course in Social Network Analysis, and score 79.2%. But because I started the course late my actual score is a lot lower than that!

I’m also put forward to take the IPA Foundation Course and sit the exam next year so there’s been a lot of studying taking place recently. Something I’ve not really done since being at University back in 1996!

December
The last month of the year is spent in a constant state of stress, anxiety and depression as the house saga rolls on, but there is a conclusion to the 6-month long shitfest as we finally exchange on our house and are set to move in the New Year.

So that was 2012. A year with more ups and downs than Jimmy Saville at a kids party. I don’t think 2013 can be quite as difficult but it will be a new chapter for me and The Wife!
