A Trip Into Town

The London Eye and Hall

Having been off week for two weeks and not having had to venture into London during this time, I made my way into London yesterday to meet up with The Wife, who had had to work, and then we took a trip on the London Eye.

Being at home for the past fortnight, I’d not actually had any ‘me’ time or done anything remotely interesting so this was a good chance to enjoy myself and take my mind of the house saga.

It’s nearly 9 years to the day since we first went on the London Eye. That time, it was New Years Eve and was our 10th anniversary and I had hired out a capsule just for us. We also had champagne and truffles and just as we were reaching the top I got down on one knee and tied my shoelace. And in doing so made The Wife panic into thinking I was getting ready to propose!

This time it wasn’t going to be as special, although the fact that I’d been given the tickets by my boss meant it wasn’t going to cost anything either! Getting out of the tube at Westminster I made my way over the bridge wading through the tourist hordes taking pictures of the Houses of Parliament and down to the wheel to join the queue of people waiting to board.

The Wife soon joined me and although it was a long queue, we sailed through it in about 45 minutes! We eventually got into our pod with everyone else for the 20 minute journey up and around.

As it was dark, London was beautifully lit up and you could see for miles despite the darkness. The only disappointment was that there was no commentary telling you about the wheel and what you could see. There were a few small consoles within the pod but you had to wait to use them as everyone seemed to want to do the same.

After we disembarked, we had a look at the 4D experience (using the term ‘experience’ loosely) and then headed on over to Victoria station to have a quick post-xmas/pre-new-year drink with @phileasphil before heading home.

This was the first time I’d been into London when I wasn’t working in quite a while (May 20th to be precise!) and so was nice to get out and about and treat London as a city to explore, rather than a place of work.
