Cape Verde

After much deliberation over about 3 months, the GF and I have finally decided on where to go to for this year’s vacation. It looked as though we’d be heading to Tunisia as it was one of a few places that kind of met her (strict) criteria, but at the last moment we changed our minds and chose to go to Cape Verde.

I’ve wanted to visit these islands for a few years now but what has put us off is the size of the hotels. When we go away we generally like the smaller hotel, so as there’s not thousands of people fighting for seats at dinner and sunbeds around the pool and on the beach. However, we decided that if we wanted to go to Cape Verde something would have to give and the size of the hotel was it.

So on Saturday we went up to our local travel agents (where we have booked about 80% of our holidays over the last 8 or 9 years!) and eventually booked a 2 week all-inclusive stay at the Riu Karamboa in Boa Vista.

The 3rd largest of the islands, Boa Vista (Portugese for “good view”) is the easternmost island and has a new international airport which has opened up tourism to it. One thing we’ll be wanting to do while we’re there is some scuba diving, and hopefully we’ll get to see some turtles for which it is known for.

At last we have something to look forward to that’s no too far away. So roll on October…
