Maldives Holiday Countdown Continues

Less than 20 sleeps to go and the anticipation reaches new levels as we continue to buy even more stuff for our holiday to the Maldives next month!

After deliberating for about 2 months the gf and I finally decided on what fins to buy so that we don’t have to worry about hiring snorkeling equipment when we’re there. The only problem with taking our own fins with us is that it adds to the weight of our luggage, which is gradually approaching the 23kg limit imposed on us by the airline! Anything higher than that and we risk being charged more especially on the sea-plane transfer to the resort from the airport.

Knowing that weight could be an issue we both decided that shorter, lighter snorkelling fins would probably be better, and that if we wanted to do some scuba-diving while we’re out there (which is probably a given) we’d just have to hire the longer fins, as our ones aren’t suitable for diving! So in the end she went for a full foot TUSA Reef Tourer while I went for the strap version of the same fin.

We now have all the equipment needed for snorkeling, having bought our masks and snorkels last month and so these were crossed off the “Have To Buy” list. All that remained on the list was a pair of sandal-type shoes. Usually on holiday I live in either trainers or shoes when not on the beach, but the gf has been on at me to get something a bit different and so persuaded me to look at getting a pair of Birkenstocks or something similar.

After traipsing around Bluewater (not easy with a broken toe!) trying to find the right style/colour/material combo I eventually found the ones I wanted, a pair of Arizona in brown. They’re not cheap at £40, but if you’re looking at getting some, steer clear of the Birkenstock website as the prices on there are a lot higher than in the high street shoe shops!

With less than three weeks to go there’s not much left to buy but I’m sure we’ll find ways of spending more money before we go!
