International Mini Meet 2014

I don’t know if it was passed down to me through my genes but I’ve always had a small fondness for the humble Mini. We had a couple of them when I was growing up and my first car was actually a mini-based kit car, the Stimson Mini Bug.

And with thoughts of maybe getting that very same kit car back on the road in the near-ish future we headed over to the 2014 International Mini Meet at the Kent County Show Ground to take a look at the various Mini customisations and to get some ideas as to what I need to do to my Mini Bug in order to get it into road-worthy condition.

I picked up a few brochures and some business cards of various companies that do mini-based wheels, seating, interiors and such like and filed them under “do something with these when you get home”.

The event itself was well attended and there were loads of cars to look at. Some people have spent absolute fortunes on them and they look amazing. Not sure I’d want to drive them on the road, although some of them were just used for showing off and don’t get much tarmac action.

There were a couple of events going on throughout the weekend and we were lucky enough to be there to witness the Loudest Exhaust competition. Yep, you read that right! Drivers revved their engines while a sound level meter was stuck by their exhaust pipes. Not quite sure what the point of it was or what the winner got as a prize but people seemed to enjoy it!
