The King of Pop Is Dead. Long Live the King!
For all his troubles in his private life, the scandals, the surgeries, there is no doubt that Michael Jackson is the biggest musical icon of his generation and deserves his title of King of Pop.
The albums Thriller and Bad have sold nearly 100 million copies between them and Off The Wall is consistently voted into the top album charts and became the first album to provide four top ten US hits for an artist.
He took the music video to the next level, spending millions of dollars on them and giving the songs something extra. Big name stars, and Eddie Murphy appeared in them. Whenever his new ones were released they were a big event, usually saved for the last spot on Top of the Pops. The one that got the most hype was Black Or White when it was released.
Having not seen him perform live I was looking forward to going to his concert next month, even though I knew it wouldn’t be as good as it was in the 80s or 90s, but knowing that it would definitely be one hell of a show.
We’ll never know exactly what went on in his private life and the rumours will circulate for a very long time but what is certain is that he had an influence on many musicians over the years and there won’t be another like him for a very long time. If ever!
