Remember Remember The 5th November

As is the norm at this time of year, we headed over to the Great Lines Heritage Park in Gillingham on Saturday night to watch the local fireworks display. It’s one of the largest in the south east although I’m not sure if this in terms of actual fireworks or people. I’m guessing it’s the latter as apparently more than 50,000 people attend this event each year! Well that’s what the council says!*

It’s nice how the council advertise it as a free event, but I’m sure some of my council tax goes towards paying for some of it! They also get the Royal Engineers from Brompton Barracks to muck in and build the massive bonfire.

Disappointingly, this year’s display wasn’t as good as the last couple of years. While the duration was the same, about 20 minutes, there wasn’t the same amount of ‘big’ fireworks as there has been previously. Those that, when they explode, reverberate throughout your whole body.

One of the joys of fireworks is that it’s fun to hear the air of anticipation when thousands of people hear a firework launch but can’t see it and not know where it will go off! (check out at around 3:25 in the bottom video)

Here’s some photos and video taking from the display…

*According to the local paper there were more than 30,000 people there yesterday. So, close to 50,000 then!
