Genius or Witch?

Last night a few friends went along to our local theatre to see Derren Brown’s new show Enigma that he was previewing, before taking it on tour around the country and then into the West End later this year.

If you haven’t seen him before, his shows are a mixture of illusion, magic, mind-reading and hypnosis. Probably his most famous TV show was when he played Russian Roulette in 2003. I’ve seen most of the TV stuff he’s done (missed the Séance one) but have never had the chance to see him live and was looking forward to the show to see what he would come up with next.

Without giving anything away, he performed his usually guessing games and reading ‘tricks’ without getting a single one wrong. including guessing what particular playing cards were when he couldn’t actually see any of it and his version of Guess Who picking out members of the audience, (his version was called Guess Whom).

I may be a bit of a skeptic and wondered if one or more of his audience members was a plant (no, not in the green-leafed sense), but it was his finale which has had me baffled since leaving the theatre. My girlfriend’s brother was one of the participants (chosen by Aerobie!) so it must have been genuine. But I still don’t believe it!

If you get the chance go along to see this show, it will amaze you…
