Route 66 – One Week To Go
It’s nearly time to head over to the US to begin our cross-country Route 66 tour and we’ve spent the last couple of days sorting out money and putting the finishing touches to our itinerary, making notes of what to stop and see along the way, and more importantly, where to stop to eat!
There’s hundreds of diners, restaurants, bars and other types of eatery and drinking hole along the route and so trying to get to all of the good ones will be a near impossible task with the schedule we’ve got. We’ve selected a couple that tie in a bit closer to where we’ll (hopefully) be at meal times.
One of these is The Big Texan, a steakhouse in Amarillo, Texas, that serves a whopping 72oz steak dinner. The challenge is to eat it in under an hour, and if you do, it’s free!
Now as much as we like our food I don’t think there’s any way that either one of us could manage that! The whole meal consists of a 72-oz. top sirloin steak, a baked potato, salad, dinner roll and shrimp cocktail.
Another thing to put together is a playlist for the trip. For this I’ve scoured the internet for the ultimate driving songs, downloaded a few “Best Driving Songs” albums or other similarly named albums. Added to this are a number of country albums and so far the playlist consists of 230 songs, which may sound like a lot but if played continuously from the start, it would only get us as far as Tulsa!
