Landed in Chicago

After more than 16 hours of travelling we finally made it to our first hotel in Chicago, the Essex Inn on Sth Michigan Ave. An uneventful journey of relative ease was only spoilt by the 1hr 20mins it took us to get through customs.

We took the train from O’Hare and on emerging at Harrison station we took a look at our map to get our bearings, when a man offered us some help. When we told him where we were headed he offered to show us the way as it was in the direction he was headed. Accepting help from strangers, especially in a foreign country, probably isn’t the cleverest thing to do but he seemed harmless enough!

True to his word, he did show us the way to the hotel and didn’t murder us, so that was good!

After dumping our bags in our room, we took a quick look around Grant Park which is opposite our hotel and wandered down to the shore of Lake Michigan before heading back to find somewhere to eat. We chose Lou Malnati’s, a Chicago style pizza restaurant, ordered a couple of root beers and a 9″ pizza to share and boy was it tasty!
