Las Vegas Day Off #2

Last night’s show of La Rève was amazing. A bit like a Cirque du Soleil show but all done over, and in, a 27 foot deep tank of water with a platform that rose in and out of it. High divers, aerialists and swimmers perform some amazing feats throughout. It’s well worth seeing if you get the chance.

Today has been another lazy day, up late but just in time for breakfast (but let’s face it, you can eat at any time in Vegas) I got myself signed up for a poker tournament for the afternoon and we killed a bit of time on the slot machines.

The poker tourny was a $50 buy-in Texas Hold ’em game. Three tables worth of players meant that there was a big prize fund but it would only be shared among the top four places.

An hour and a half later I was out.

Down to my last $1000 I went all in with a pair of queens but was beaten on the river when a jack came up to give one player three of a kind. On the plus side, I wasn’t the first person out. 12 others had fallen before me and so for my first Vegas poker game I consider that a success.

After a quick change we went out for dinner and another show. This time it was V. the Ultimate Variety Show. Not a patch on last night’s show (but that was to be expected considering the scale of the two shows) but it was good fun nonetheless.

Before we hit the sack we went back to Gilleys for a last couple of drinks in Vegas and we witnessed something truly disturbing…Bikini Bull Riding. It’s not as good as it sounds, believe me!
