In The (Colour) Scheme Of Things
As the wedding juggernaut continues to roll on despite us not having a date set yet, the fiancée and I spent a bit of time over the weekend dealing with various wedding things and then not deciding on anything at all!
Without having a colour scheme sorted out yet (although we’ve got a few ideas) we popped over to Hobby Craft to see how cheap it would be to make our own invitations instead of paying to have them professionally made. And also if it would be possible with our limited craft work skills.
After traipsing around the store looking at various card designs and colours, we worked out that it would be possible for us to do it, as long as all the necessary card, paper and accessories is available in whatever colour scheme we decide to go with. Apparently bridesmaids dresses are a big deciding factor in this!
To help us get an idea for that we headed over to a bridal shop to take a look at some fabrics and dresses. After a short while she was coerced into trying some wedding dresses and so I had to make like a tree. This gave me a chance to check out some suit hire shops and get some price quotes.
We met up later and, having been advised to do so by the bridal store lady, visited a fabric store. The idea being that if we have a look at different coloured fabrics it would help us to decide on what to go for. If we didn’t have certain restrictions it would all be a lot easier. Purple isn’t allowed, and neither is red or any variation thereof! Which puts my idea of having claret and blue at the very bottom of the list!
And so, despite coming away with a couple of pieces of fabric, we’re still no nearer to deciding exactly what colours we’ll be wearing and decorating the room with. But that was enough for one day!
The next day, after our first outing to a wedding fair last week, it was time to take another step into bridal over-indulgence with another collection of photographers, cake-makers and dress-sellers at Hempstead House.
Her eyes lit up as we came across the Sweets For My Sweet stand. They provide you with a table full of sweets to use as your wedding favours, either colour coordinated to your day or you can go with a retro selection (dib-dabs and flying saucers anyone?). It’s a great idea but as with anything these days, I reckon you could do it cheaper yourself.
