Barry Stimson
Barry Stimson has been in the business of designing and producing products for many years. The vast range of products include amphibious and off road vehicles, bespoke multi level timber houses in Canada and Australia, power boats up to 50ft, sail boats, cats and multi hulls, super trikes and competition cars. Other products include furniture design and a raft of design award winning motor caravans. Romahome, Cockburn Holdsworth, La Méditerranée, Alpine, St Tropez to name but a few U.K. designs. Barry Stimson is still working as a design consultant for a number of companies as far a field as Japan and Australia. All designs have one thing in common; they are all significantly different to other products on offer.
Barry Stimson returned to the U.K from Canada in 1969 and designed and built the first of his cars, a kit car, the Stimson Mini Bug. It was a great success followed by the CSII, six wheeler Mini Bug, Safari Six, Scorcher, Sea Donkey, Hitch Hiker, Trek and Honda open 4. Even today, 35 years on, many examples remain.
There is a new Stimson design called the Stimson Buggy, a kind of updated version of what you see here but based on a Ford Fiesta. Take a look here for an account of Barry and his son driving two of these to the most northern point of Europe, Nordkapp in Norway
