An Absolute Cnut Of A Weekend
Last week I took Thursday and Friday off work so that The Wife and I could “get stuff done” before we looked after our nephew and niece for the Saturday and Sunday, and as seems to be the general way things go these days, it all went to shit in a big way.
First of all there were even more problems with the house which you can read about here so there’s no need to go into that any more, but that put the kibosh on the Thursday and Friday morning as well.
After dealing with all that crap, we decided to go to Bluewater to get me some new jeans. As we were driving along the M2, in the rain, in the outside lane, doing about 80mph, my windscreen wipers packed up. I was unable to see a thing which isn’t an ideal way to drive. I managed to get the car over to the hard shoulder without accident and popped the bonnet to see if I could fix the problem.
The wiper linkage had broken and even though I managed to get it into place again, it kept breaking so I had to phone the AA to get them out to see if they could fix it. I was told it was going to take about an hour before they could get to me, but as I was on the motorway I was told we had to get out of the car and stand behind the barrier as we were in a dangerous position.
So there’s me and The Wife standing in a load of bushes in the pouring rain and wind for ages while we waited for the recovery truck to turn up. Which it eventually does. But the mechanic is unable to fix it, so we get on the phone to the closest Fiat dealers to see if they’ve got the necessary part and can fix it there and then. Which luckily they do, so my car is hooked up to the back of the recovery truck and we’re taken to the garage about 20 miles away.
We then have to sit around and wait (at least we’re inside now!) while the Fiat garage finish the jobs they’re working on before getting round to replacing the windscreen wiper motor (they couldn’t just fix it) on my little Punto.
So a couple of hours later and £250 lighter we decided to just pack it in for the day and returned home for the evening having accomplished pretty much fuck all over the two days.
Saturday passed without incident mainly as we babysat, babysitted, looked after the two kids although The Wife had problems breathing as she’s allergic to the cats that they own.
On Sunday morning I headed off to football, unsure as to whether the game would take place as it had rained pretty much constantly all of the previous afternoon and evening which would usually mean our pitch would be waterlogged. However, the pitch was in a good state so the game went ahead.
But we only had 10 players!
Because of a couple of no-shows we had to struggle through the game a man down for the full 90 minutes and although by some miracle we won 4-3, during the game I took a ball to the face at full force, but with no subs had to struggle on with a nose bleed and a headache.
The rest of the Sunday was spent looking after the kids until late in the afternoon when their parents returned. By this time The Wife and I were both not feeling very well. Her breathing problems had worsened, my face ached from the football and we were both coming down with colds from having been stood in the rain on Friday.
Needless to say when we got home we collapsed on the sofas and did very little for the rest of the day, with no energy and aching limbs!
