All Aboard The Starlight Express

The Girls had their first experience of a London theatre musical yesterday as we took them to see Andrew Lloyd Webber’s train-based Starlight Express, some thirty years after The Wife and I went to see it at the Apollo Victoria for her birthday.

It was an early start for us to get the train into London as the show was a matinee performance, not to be confused with a manatee performance which is where you watch some large marine mammals swimming about in the ocean!

The Girls enjoyed the trip up and the schlep over to Hammersmith which is where the show is playing, at the Troubadour Theatre. Once inside the theatre I bought the obligatory programme and treated us to a soundtrack CD, before we took our seats in the auditorium.

We had chosen track-level seats so we would be close to the action, practically within touching distance of the performers as they roller-skated around the multi-level stage. Getting in early gave The Girls a chance to take in the atmosphere as it built up to the start of the show and we couldn’#t wipe the smiles from their faces.

They thoroughly enjoyed the whole show and came out afterwards singing a few of the songs, which I knew would happen, hence the reason for buying the CD, so they could listen to it at home. They continued to talk about it for most of the journey home, so I think it is safe to say that they had a good time and can’t wait to do it again.
