Accident Update

Finally, things are in progress to get my car fixed up all good and new like.

On Monday I had to take the car down to the authorised repairers for them to take some photos of the vehicle and the damage. These then had to be sent off to the assessors who would make the decision on whether the damage was fixable at a cost that didn’t exceed the value of the car, and thus not a write-off.

Then I sat around for a couple of days waiting to hear back from the assessors to find out what would happen next. Obviously I didn’t just sit around waiting, I meant it metaphorically, I went about the usual monotony of day to day stuff while waiting for a phone call.

Late yesterday afternoon I got a message from the garage saying that the repairs had been authorised and so had to call them back to arrange to book it in. Due to the Christmas break the earliest that they could do was the first week of January so I got it in for the 4th. I figured going to work late on the first day back after Christmas wouldn’t be too clever so opted for the next day.

The next job was to phone the insurance company to sort out the courtesy car I’d requested, but when I phoned them they told me that the authorisation hadn’t appeared on their system yet and so I’d have to wait before sorting this out.

So I sat around (metaphorically, again) waiting for the call back and that came this morning. So many hoops to jump through to get the car arranged including a conference call with the DVLA who had to clarify that I had a valid driving licence and any points that were on it. 15 minutes of legal jargon later and I’ve got a courtesy car waiting for me on the 4th at the garage when I drop the Punto off.

Either that or I’ve signed over the deeds to my house and authorised the company to take all of my earnings for the next ten years.

I’m pretty sure it’s the courtesy car…
