Working Hard In The Snow

We had more snow at the weekend and as usual this caused chaos around the country as Britain became a victim of the big freeze, sorry, The Big Feeze!!! News channels went berserk with reporters all doing their pieces to camera from either a snowed-in road, a closed airport or a big field with children having fun in it!

The main news is “snow has fallen”. The sports news is “games postponed because of snow”. The travel news is “snow is causing problems”. The Weather is “snow’s fallen”. Could you imagine living in Austria and having this media coverage? You’d never find out if anything else was happening around the world!

It’s snow. We get it quite often now and we know how crap we are at dealing with it. Please can we have some interesting news instead?

Yesterday we were supposed to be getting a log delivery to see us through the winter and so in the morning, in preparation for the delivery, we cleared what little snow we’d had on Friday from the driveway and cleaned out the wood shed ready to store the new load. Just as we were congratulating ourselves for a job well done, it started to snow really heavily and within two hours, four inches of snow had fallen. There was no way our delivery would now be coming!

Early this afternoon though, we had a phonecall from them saying they’d be with us in an hour! So we had to clear all the snow off our driveway again, just in case we had to move the car for them to be able to get their trailer onto it. Shovelling snow really does make you feel like a man doesn’t it!

When they turned up, the wife had a heart attack at the amount of wood that we were getting. After we’d unloaded about two thirds of it she decided that we wouldn’t be able to take it all, and so we only took what they’d dumped on our drive.

We then had the lovely job of transfering it all to the back garden and stacking it in the shed. About 10 minutes into this laborious task it started snowing again, making it slippery to walk (dangerous with an armful of logs) getting the wood wet in the process.

An hour later and we had a fully stacked shed, an overflow stack at the front of the house, aching arms, tired legs and soggy gloves!
A Full Wood Shed. Job Done!
