Welcome To The World of HD

When we bought our old home nearly ten years ago, I spent a lot of money on my TV. It was Sony’s first ever LCD TV and as always with new technology it was quite expensive. It was also only standard definition. I have never watched anything at home in HD!

Because of the cost, The Wife has never let me replace it, as it has worked impeccably for nine and a half years, and we never had anywhere else to put it had a new one been purchased. And so I was always told that when we moved house I could treat myself to a new TV.

And today was Treat Day!

Over the last few months, I have rigorously researched what I was after and finally worked out what make and model I wanted. Then The Wife and I had to decide on screen size. For our room size we had said that 40″ or 46″ would be big enough, there was no need to go bigger and anything smaller would be pointless.

I’d been keeping an eye on prices on various sites and narrowed it down to Richer Sounds who would price match other stores and they (along with a couple of sites) did a free 5 year warranty. So a couple of days ago I phoned them up to reserve one for today and was told that they only had the 46″ in stock.

Shame!

So this morning I got one of my brothers-in-law to drive over to Maidstone because we didn’t think it would fit into the back of my little Punto and we headed to Richer Sounds where I picked up my Sony Bravia KDL-46HX853 TV, free Sony blu-ray player and 3D glasses.

What I hadn’t realised until after I had decided on that particular model was that a number of tech, TV and home cinema magazines and websites had chosen this TV as their TV of year. It’s nice to see I’ve got good taste!

But because we had other “things to do today” I wasn’t able to actually get it set up until a couple of hours ago. First impressions are “Mmmmmmmmm……” but that might just be seeing things in HD for the first time in my house!
