Touch Down In The Maldives
Finally arrived in the Maldives after what seemed like days! Couldn’t sleep at all on the flight so arrived at Male a bit tired. We’d heard stories of people waiting at Male for the transfer to the resort for about 4 hours, but luckily for us we were called to our flight after about 25 minutes.
The seaplane journey was fun, if a little cramped, noisy and hot, but we eventually arrived at the Chaaya Lagoon Hakuraa Huraa at about 11am, some eighteen hours after leaving home, ready for a quick snooze before exploring the island. Unfortunately our room wasn’t ready so we had to kill some time waiting for it and what better place to do that than in the bar?

The room, water bungalow number 108, is really spacious with a viewing window looking down into the water below, so you can watch the fish swimming below. The balcony has stairs down into a lagoon, which at high tide you can snorkel in and has quite a number of fish in. We had requested a high number room but had been given this low numbered one, so asked the infamous Raj if it would be possible to change it. We were told to see what our room was like and then make a decision tomorrow.
After a quick nap, we had a wander around the island which took about 45 minutes! There’s not that much to see, a couple of bars, a restaurant and a small play area for the kids, the spa and the water treatment plant! By the time we got back to the room there was time for a quick change before heading to dinner.
All meals are taken in the main restaurant and we have to sit at the same table for every meal, but it looks as though our waiter may move us tomorrow to a seat with a slightly better view of the lagoon. I suppose it stops everyone fighting over the best ones!
After dinner it was time to hit the sack, both of us were tired from the journey here and couldn’t stay awake much longer. Holiday proper starts tomorrow!
