The Blue Toad Murder Files

A neat little game available on the Playstation Network (PSN) is Relentless Software’s Blue Toad Murder Files. It’s a whodunnit game, where you play a member of the Blue Toad Detective Agency who stumbles into a murder in the town of Little Riddle.

Your job is to follow the clues given to you while solving some strange but rather complex puzzles. These puzzles come in many and they’re all designed to confound, discombobulate and get the little grey cells (™ Hercule Poirot) working!

The first two episodes were released last year and Relentless announced yesterday that they will be releasing episode three next month. And they’ll be doing so for free. Gratis. Zero pounds! This is good news because the pricing was a little bit high, charging 9.49 for the first two episodes. £30 for the whole game would have been quite steep as the game as very little repeat-play appeal.

Yes, the puzzles are tricky and to get all of the trophies you have to answer them all correct and within a set time limit, but there was no variation. If you failed to get a gold trophy (by correctly completing the puzzle in the shortest time) all you had to do was make a note of the answer and then go back and replay the game.

The story is quite good, although the voice acting gets on your tits after a bit, and it’s a shame you can’t wander around the village as part of the game but it’s nice to have a playable game that gets you thinking!
