Taken Up The Shard

Last night we had another work-team night out and after stopping off for a quick drink or two in a pub by London Bridge station, we made our way to the location for the event, The Shard.
After stopping off for the obligatory souvenir photo, we made our way up to the 69th floor of the glass tower for some spectacular views across London. The Shard is almost twice the height of any other viewing platform in London and you can see for up to 40 miles in 360 degrees. As long as the weather’s good.
Fortunately for us it was and we all spent a bit of time walking the perimeter trying to spot various landmarks, offices and our own houses. We then went up to level 72 the open-air viewing gallery which allows you to look up to the shards of glass as they disappear into the sky.
As the sun settled the city changes from light to dark. Buildings and streets light up the city and the city takes on a whole new view. But apart from looking at stuff, there isn’t that much to do up there. There are some touch screens that show you the various landmarks which makes spotting them a bit easier, but all in all, you’re really just admiring the view.
And at £25, that’s an expensive view!
