Scuba Diving Time
An early start today as we had our first couple of dives this morning and we had to be at the Dive & Sail dive school for 8am. After a quick briefing we grabbed our equipment and made our way onto the boat. The first dive site (Muli Out) was about 45 minutes away, so on the journey Tim (our dive master) questioned us about boat diving as part of our PADI Advanced Open Water Diving (AOWD) course.
The dive itself was on a sloping reef that went down to 40 metres with no floor so it was very easy to drop below the recommended levels. We’re only allowed to go to 18 metres at the moment but when we complete this course we’ll be able to go deeper.
On the dive we saw a napoleon fish and the gf came face to face with a puffer fish. There was the usual abundance of reef fish as well, including a couple of moray eels.
We were then taken to another dive site (Egga) where we were to complete our underwater natuarlist part of the course. To do this we had to draw 5 fish, 4 coral and an invertebrate as pointed out by Tim. Once back on shore we would have to try and name all of these. Going by my drawing ability this would probably be a bit more difficult than it originally sounded.
On the dive itself we managed to see a manta ray. At least that’s what we thought until the gf got all excited about it and was promptly shot down by Tim who told us afterwards that it was a smaller relative of the manta, and not half as exciting 🙁
This was the first time we had ever done a two-tank dive and I was feeling a little tired as we headed back to shore.
Back on dry land we consulted our fish book to try and name the things we’d had to draw on the dive but we needed more books as we failed to find some of the fish in our one.
After the energetic morning it was time to chill in the afternoon with another visit to the spa just after lunch for massages. The gf had the aroma massage and I had a Swedish one. They were just as good as before and we came out feeling very relaxed.
