National Television Awards

Last night, as there was nothing much else to watch on TV and we had nothing stored on the Sky+ box that we both fancied, The Wife and I ended up watching the National Television Awards.

Now I don’t know why we did because we don’t watch that much British TV. In fact of all of the shows nominated for an award, we watch three of them. Three! Sherlock, Dr Who and Miranda. This made for interesting viewing, as to each person nominated we’d go “who?”!

The majority of TV that we watch is all US-based dramas which aren’t the sort of programmes that get nominated in these awards shows. The NTAs are voted for by the public and they are never going to get things right are they? Case in point, winner of the best comedy show was Mrs Browns Boys! A totally unfunny show which has a man dressed as a woman playing on typical Irish stereotypes.

Yes, there are some good shows from the UK but when it comes to engaging drama, the Americans have got us beat!
