Shiny New Gadget – Sony Tablet S
It’s been said that I like gadget, and that is probably true. I’m also a bit of a Sony freak, about 80% of the electronic equipment I own is made by them, so when I was contemplating getting an iPad so that we could keep online during our trip to the US I’m glad my wife told me about the tablet that Sony were going to release.
Although Apple do make nice things their reliance on the cumbersome and annoying iTunes puts me off their products. On a recent trip to Bluewater I had a chance to play with both the iPad and the Sony Tablet S (catchy name, huh?) and I was won over by the S and so all I had to decide was which size to get, 16GB or 32GB.
I decided on the 32GB just so that I wouldn’t run out of space as we’ll probably load some films onto it to keep us entertained on those boring evenings in our motel rooms! There was a model with 3G but having looked at the costs with the various companies, decided to rely on wifi networks for internet access instead.
The tablet runs on Android’s Honeycomb OS 3.2 and has access to loads of apps available at the Marketplace which I’ve spent the morning downloading and playing with including the usual social network and navigation apps. I’ve found a Route 66 app which will hopefully come in useful in a couple of weeks and I’m writing this on the WordPress app that is also available.
So far I’ve been impressed with the Tablet S (going to have to come up with a better name for it) but I haven’t even used half of it’s installed apps yet so I’ll be spending most of my spare time playing with it even more.
