Not Exactly My Forte

Client pitches. They’ve never really been my thing. I’m more of a technical person. Give me a problem to solve and I’m onto it with no hesitation. Ask me to negotiate a new deal with a potential client and I become a wreck. Tell me there’s an issue with some data that needs investigating and I’m happy as a pig in shit!

This week I have been spending most of my working day calculating costings and timelines for a new project, as well as preparing for a couple of conference calls to discuss aspects of it all with the client. So there’s me with spreadsheets open trying to calculate an hourly rate based upon a yearly salary and a daily rate, while trying to figure out how long it will take to build out the campaign across 7 different countries in 2 languages!

I don’t know what it is, but the final figure always looks to be a lot more than it should be, and I panic thinking the client will never go for it and that we risk not getting the business cos we’ve priced ourselves out of the market! And in the current climate that’s a dangerous place to be!

Maybe I should have more faith…
