Paternity Leave Is Over
Today was a day that I had not been looking forward to for some time. It was my first day back at work after taking three months off to look after my daughter.
Over the last 100 days I’ve had an amazing time bonding with my little girl, taking her out to enjoy new experiences, play with friends at various baby group sessions, and generally helping her grow. We’ve had lots of fun and there have been some tough times as well, especially in the first few days but I wouldn’t have changed it for the world. We’ve been to parks and zoos, we’ve been swimming, and playing
I was really lucky in that my company were able to give me the time off, especially the month’s sabbatical that I could tack onto the end of my actual paternity leave of two months.
But today was a tough day. Having to leave her at home with mum (who’s got a couple of days off herself now) was difficult, although I expect Wednesday is going to be much, much tougher when I have to leave her at nursery for her first full day. It also means that my time with her during the week will be limited to just the early morning pre-nursery time and then only a little time in the evening when I get back from work as her bedtime will be around the time that I will be getting home
