Pokemon Gone

After about four months of walking around staring at my mobile phone, flicking balls and evolving creatures it’s time to put Pokemon Go to bed.

It was a great idea for a game, walk around the real world, collecting things in an augmented reality, upgrade to become a better player, and get better Pokemon by training them at certain locations and do battle against other players. However it’s got to the stage where if you’re not willing to do a lot of battles you won’t get much out of it.

To be honest I’m surprised I lasted this long when friends gave up a month or so ago. But it’s got to the point where it’s just a case of grinding out the kilometeres, to earn a bloody Pidgey with no sign of any decent Pokemon. It’s OK if you live in a decent sized town as there’s loads to collect, but as soon as I start playing near home there is absolutely nothing to catch and hardly any gyms to battle in.

Add to this that the app must be open in order to earn through walking, it really kills your phone’s battery really quickly. It’s also taking up space on my phone’s limited hard drive.

And so after grinding myself up slowly to level 30 and as I’m not going to be in London for a while from next month, it’s time to uninstall it from my phone and hang up my Pokemon trainer boots.
