The Train Pain

As the year comes to an end, it’s time to shell out a small fortune and renew my train season ticket.

Every year the cost of rail travel goes up and this year I am having to pay more than £100 extra compared to last year and all to get exactly the same crappy service from Southeastern Railway.

What’s more shocking is that the price of my season ticket has gone up by £1,000 in just 4 years! I now have to pay nearly £5,000 just to commute to and from work. My salary hasn’t increased over this time and so I am worse off than I was back then.

Two years ago, Boris Johnson suggested that season tickets for commuters should be paid for by pre-tax income, effectively a tax break for commuters. Since then? Absolutely nothing. Just another one of those suggestions from a politician looking to curry favour with the voter!
